Problem after hard boosting
Any help on this would be apreciated, I was coming home from a dinner party this evening, and I hit a stretch of open highway, so I "dropped the hammer" so to say and let it rip. The boost read about 1.9~2.0 on the factory gauge everything was great, a few miles later I coasted to the bottom of the exit ramp and the idle dropped all the way down (red waring light came on) then it was idling roughly, and smoking.
My first thouhght was that I had blown the headgasket, but the overpowering smell of unburnt fuel was everywhere. So I limped home and took a poke around. I finally removed the AFM cover and noticed that the pointer was 3/4 of the way to the drivers side. I backed it down 4-5 clicks and now everythig is fine again. So what did I break? |
Ok, so I have been doing some thinking, and here is my conclusion, I hope the guru's are thinking the same thing:
Under the 2 bar of boost that I was hitting (actually the boost gauge was pegged out,) I ran out of fuel, therefore the DME riched the system WAY up to deliver more fuel, but it was unable to back it down again. So the conclusion is this, I think I may need a FPR, such as the one from "Guru racing" to get my system to work correctly. Any thoughts? |
