GT Racing spoiler - what lights to use?
I recently installed a front spoiler from GT Racing on my 944 and I was wonder what driving/fog lights to use. I talked with Hank at GT-Racing and he didnt want to tell me what specific light to use... for whatever reason i don't know... He said to get some driving lights from my local auto parts store.
Who has installed a GT-Racing front spoiler and what lights did you use? Thanks! |

I thought about using GTRacing's spoilers before and he couldn't tell me what lights to use, so I decided not to get the parts from him. I figure he should at least know enough about using the parts to know what you need to install them.
What spoiler did you get? that will help us determine what you need? Is it the stock spoiler or what? Can you get pics?

yeah, it pissed me off. First of all the bumper didn't fit worth a crap and now when I ask for what lights to use... he doesnt know? I wish I would of known it was going to be such a hassle and I would have not bought this spoiler.
I'll post some pics later... Thanks! |

Just so you know, you may have a better chance at having a bocy guy modify mounts to the stock locations.
Anyway, show us pics when you get a chance and we'll give opinions and advice from there.

Overall the bumper looks great. There was a lot of work put into it to get it to fit right. The middle insert was glassed in and molded for a 1 piece look. That also didnt fit worth a crap.
Here are some pics.... any idea what lights would fit without rigging up some $9.00 Autozone driving lights?

Your pictures have pretty poor contrast so it is hard to tell what you are working with. But you probably have bigger problems than just the fogs or driving lights. Somewhere you have to put in turnsignals and front running as well as either a running/sidemarker that shines both front and to the side or seperate fronts and sides. Then you throw all you need into the into the equation to see what is available that will fit, look and work decent.
GT Racing's stuff frequently comes with poor fit and finish, no hardware to do the job or even suggestions on what may work. I don't know how they stay in business. |

Poor contrast?? geees, might want to check you're monitor.
I think I can use the parking lights from the original bumper and then just add some driving lights beside them. I was just hoping to find someone that has already done it. The parking lights will also act as a blinker. I'm not worried about the side markers. I don't know how GT Racing stays in business either. We're dealing with Porsches not Geo metros. We want a quality product, if it cost a little more to produce a quality product, I dont mind paying extra. I'm thinking about adding side skirts and a rear spoiler. Does anyone recommend a new source for these parts? Thanks! |

That is the Carrera GTS front spoiler - by far the sexiest spoiler for the 944 and I commend you on the choice.
Lights needed are the same as the euro bumper lights. You need euro driving lights and euro turn signals. Unfortunately the inner lights are not easy to find. You may have to have them shipped from Germany. You may want to have your body man just glass in some mounts for the Us lights. ![]()

Thanks for the info, that answers a lot of questions. Yeah, I think the spolier looks awesome and thank god I had a good shop doing the work. I realize any fiberglass parts need some work for them to fit perfectly but this piece needed a LOT of work for it to fit right.
Looks like we'll be fabbing up some driving light mounts. I think the original 944 bumper turn signals will fit. I'll let you know the results. Thanks! |

There are slight differences in the turn signal lenses Euro vs. US. The US ones will work they just don't have the exact angle to conform to the bumper.
The Euro driving lights can be had for around $120 each. I can dig up the info on where to get them that cheap if you want to do it right. You will also need the rubber bumperettes and the small rubber pads that are found between the DR LTS and TS lenses. They can still be purchased from Porsche but you can also find them on Ebay from sellers in the UK. |

How about the one from Fiberwerks, do they fit any better? I agree this one looks awesome. Now having second thoughts about the Fiberwerks one.

tunedportcj5 - don't give up on it. Try to do it the right way, then try fabbing stuff. It'll look awesome when you're done!

Yep, you need the "euro" front lights. Not too hard to find.
The turnsignal housing is the same but the lenses are different (as someone else mentioned already). Here is the part numbers for correct shape lenses: 477953162 LENS, RIGHT - JETRONIC; 924 1980-85 477953161 LENS, LEFT - JETRONIC; 924 1980-85 Please note the US lense is 477953161A, make sure there is NO "A"! Driving lights (they are not fog lights, they are driving lights with 2 bulbs in each lamp) 944.631.408.00 Right 944.631.407.00 Left I found some on ebay cheap, and had to order some from the UK http://www.*****************/index.htm?Region=US
