Front Brake Line Thread Size or I.D.?
Anybody know what the thread size/pitch of the front brake lines? I need to either find a cap nut or create one to cap off the lines so I can remove the calipers without losing fluid.
Inner diameter might also work if I can either find or fabricate some rubber corks to cap the lines. While the rear brake bleeder caps very handily cap off the rear brake lines, the fronts are different, and the bleeder caps don't work. Thanks! |
Do you have a Motive pressure bleeder? If yes, refilling and bleeding the brakes is so easy that it would be worth not faffing around making caps. In fact, the calipers are going to need to be bled anyway.
With the car on stands or a lift and the wheels off, you can do a full flush/bleed in 10-15 mins. If you don’t, it’ll be $60-70 of the best money ever spent. I bought mine 20+ years ago after my wife got sick of helping me. A superb device. John |
I do have a Motive bleeder...but the issue is if I empty the lines they will stay that way for awhile - possibly three or so months...and I'm worried about moisture and possible corrosion problems. I'd much rather have the lines be full until I'm ready to re-assemble everything.

Roger that. Your cork idea was a good one; my local hardware store has a good selection of tapered cork bungs for pennies each. John

Wedge a short length of wood (or whatever) between the driver's seat and brake pedal to depress the pedal. That will seal off the inlet from reservoir and MC, and fluid will not drain out. You'll still have to bleed the system.
