clutch pedal

Recently my clutch pedal has been getting stuck to the floor. Usually when I am sitting at a stop light but not always. It gets very annoying when your in first gear and you have to put your foot under the clutch pedal and lift it up before you can shift. It used to do this a while back but I discoved that it only did it when the floor mat was getting pushed up too far. Now it does it all the time. Does this happen to anyone else. I just got a new clutch in exactly 2 weeks ago. Any ideas, its a hydraulic clutch correct? Can it be adjusted? What do you guys think? Thanx for the help.

Mine was doing the same thing. It's getting fixed right now. My mechanic has had it since last Tuesday! He wasn't sure what was causing it so I can't help much besides that mine was doing that too.

You just got a new clutch 2 weeks ago? When exactly did this clutch problem start?

If it started after the new clutch, then it's almost certainly due to a mistake caused by your mechanic and you should take it back to him (for the last time) to get it fixed for free.

A year ago I decided to change the fluid in my clutch mechanism by bleeding it out. As you know, it shares the brake fluid reservoir. Anyway, I got some air in it and the symptom was a pedal that would not come up. I rebled it, and the springiness came back. Try bleeding it.

My early '85 944 did the same thing when I bought it. In fact, it caught me so off guard the first time that I went through a red light. I got a ticket, but talked my way out of a fine from the judge. As it turned out, my clutch master cylinder was shot. I replaced it myself, with the help of the Haynes repair manual. It took about an hour.

If you chose to do the job yourself, pick up a copy of Excellence magazine at your local bookstore. The magazine is full of ads for parts that are significantly cheaper than the dealer. I payed $90 of my clutch cylinder and have seen it new for $45 in Excellence.

Good luck.

It sounds like a hydraulic problem. If the system was properly bled, then check the system for dripping brake fluid. On the ground under the starter means leaking slave cylinder. Dripping off the connecting rod between the pedal and master cylinder onto the carpet under the dash os obviously the master cylinder. Both are relatively easy fixes.

I finally got my car back today. Been almost 3 weeks. I had the say problem Stray had. He replaced the Master cylinder and then had to replace the slave because it was so coraded. The guy before me only ever Changed the fluid like once. So it ruined the Master and Slave cylinder.

It took so long because of parts. It too forever for him to get them in. It cost me 300 but he didn't charge me labor so I don't know what it would be with your bill.

I just had a new clutch put in. After about 20 minutes of hard driving the clutch pedal stayed stuck to the floor. It turned out to be a snapped spring on the throwout bearing. Be warned cuz I'm not too sure about this shop. They fixed it but other things arose. I'm investigating them.

My luck must really suck. I finally get my car back after 3 weeks but now my clutch is actin up. Now it's hard to push down to the floor. He just replaced the Master and Slave cylinder. My haynes manual says it could be incorrect slave and master cylinder sizes.

Mine was getting stuck on my 87 Turbo. All I had to do was adjust the clutch pedal under the dash so that the threshold was further out. That fixed my problem, free of charge.

Thank guys for all the response. Finally, a month later, all the fluid leaked out so I had to do something about it. I fluid was dripping off of the starter so I concluded that is was indeed the slave cylender and not the master. I called up my mechanic and luckily he had a new one at the shop. So, 69 bucks and 20 minutes later I was back home and under the car. 2 hours later I was back on the road. This was easier than repacking the CV joints. If anyone needs any assistance in the future doing this project just let me know.

Happy Driving,
Tim
