Roof antenna for 944
Anyone relocated their radio antenna/aerial from the fender to the roof? Interested to know if it fits better before or after the sunroof?

I think roof antennae are cool, albeit an invitation to corrosion.
This one always comes to mind: ![]() Perhaps it's apocryphal, but legend has it that young Stirling Moss (RIP), was bored and wanted to listen to the radio ... while racing Was there ever a better looking car? The 250 SWB is a Top 5 design in my book. This one, ex Rob Walker, is now owned by Ross Brawn. John

I bought mine on ebay. I'm sure it came from China but it works great. Cheap, too. Also bought enough coax cable on ebay. You'll need to run from under the dash behind the radio and wire in a new plug (radio shack that goes into the radio) onto one end of the coax. then run it either over the Passenger window frame or under the carpet next to the passenger door sill. then run it up the C pillar into the overhead support area. Note here: If you want it to be esthetically centered midway front to back on the support keep in mind there is a second layer of metal that can be an issue in mounting. Because the threaded mount of the antenna base I purchased was short and interference from the extra piece of metal, there wasn't sufficient purchase to use the mounting bolt. So, don't smirk here, I put a big glob of JB Weld on the underside of the mount to secure the whole mount to the inside of the hole. Then attach the coax end of the cable to the antenna and you're done. Remember to seal the underside of the mount with a liquid rubber sealant. Reception is fantastic. Note: If you want to remove the sunroof panel, it's easier if you unscrew the antenna mast. It's easy. See the attached picture.

The antenna above is the same ones used on the VW models in the early to mid 2000's. I have one on my Subaru, and it makes a great, universal replacement. As a side benefit, it will accept a "stubby" screw in attachment if you do not like the long antenna.
This is the one I purchased (for my subaru) and it came with the exact connector to plug directly into the head unit, and plenty of cable to run under my roof liner and behind my A-pillar. I see no reason why it wont also work on our 944s, but beware, you will need to drill about a 1/2" hole in your roof. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ET4S7M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
