rewiring

i plan on rewiring my early '85 944. this could lead to a new dash?? lights, fogs, windows a must. i would like to update all switches, wires etc. possibly a switch/fuse panel. has anyone attempted this? or has an idea where to look for guidance? am sacrificing originality for function.

Ok, here's a bit of advice, unless your car is TOTALLY srewed somehow, this is a lot more trouble than you might think.

There really aren't many parts in common between a late 944 and an early one!

Check it out, first of all, the chasis is different at the dash mounts. A major problem, just to start with. The complete electrical system is different, down to the alternator!

I'm not sure if you realize what you'd be getting into.

I do understand though, I myself was thinking about upgrading my car, when I first bought it. I was 16 back then, boy do people change! I'm buying a 951 instead this may...

Ahmet is right, it would be much less trouble, as well as much less expensive to sell your car and buy another one that's in better condition. Or, upgrade to a Turbo or S2.
