Help provide a list of fasteners for wheel housing liner
Hi guys,
I realize this is probably a very niche ask, but I took my wheel housing liner off this weekend to install some braided fuel lines, and found that the previous owner had used fine thread bolts to hold the liner on. Either that, or the screws were missing entirely. This is the liner I'm talking about: ![]() I've got an '86 NA and this guide seems to indicate there is even a plastic fastener: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Porsche_944_Turbo/33-BODY-Wheelwell_Liner_Removal/33-BODY-Wheelwell_Liner_Removal.htm Does anyone have a list of part numbers or dimensions/specs for the complete set of screws that holds this thing onto the car? I would super appreciate it! Thanks ![]() |

Hi,
I have an 86 NA that I have had since new, so the inner fender liner has never been removed or tampered with. I just took a look and can see that the fasteners are just bolts with 10mm heads. except for the one at the top of the liner. That one looks to be a 10mm nut with a washer on a stud. doesn't seem to be any funky plastic specialty fasteners. Hope this helps.

That article is accurate, but is for a Turbo. For your car, ignore figure 4 (turbo specific rocker panel). Figure 5 will be different, no batwing attachment and no scoop; but there are still screws and speed nuts in that general area.
It should be apparent from your liners how many of each part you need. It's odd that the PET doesn't illustrate them. It does show 12 of the plastic nuts, which is correct. Six on each side. They all go on body studs. Three are for the lower brackets at the floor, two beside the strut, and one at the top. The plastic nuts are fairly standard in Euro cars, 10mm head and self threading. The Porsche number for them is 999-049-008-40. Nothing special about them. You can find them with larger flanges too, I think from a Mercedes. The rest should be the coarse thread "combination screw" and the corresponding speed nut. PET shows 22 of the screw, which is for the liner and fender. I would guess there are a dozen needed for the liners, but don't know for sure. I don't know the number for the screw. It looks to be N-090-172-1, and speed nut 999-507-003-02 (6.3mm screw diameter) but not sure. Screw is probably a 6mm or 6.X mm coarse thread screw with 10mm head. You can probably find them on Belmetric, don't know the dealer price. If you want to measure it, I think its the same as the screws holding on the top flange of the fender. You can pull just one out and measure it. They're everywhere on the body. The washers - just washers. Nothing special, however you do want fender or oversized washers for the plastic nuts. If your car has particularly soft shocks and/or sees track use, be aware of the plastic nut and stud at the top of the liner. Under heavy compression the tire can rub on it, and potentially be cut by the stud. I would ensure that the plastic of the nut protrudes past the metal stud, so that if it does rub, the plastic rubs first. Last edited by FrenchToast; 07-30-2020 at 03:34 PM.. |
