HELP HELP HELP

I was installing my power chips today (A pain in the @$$ btw) and I got them in ok I guess. But then I have to put something in my wastegate. It is a triangluar piece of metal and i have to take off an elbow joint near the splash gaurd. It is right before the cat I think. I saw where it is but wasn't able to lift it until tomorrow. Is this a nessicary part or what? I am not much of a machanic so this is a huge pain in my butt. So I was wondering if I needed to or not. Thanks for your advice.

Well, the instructions with the Weltmeister chips say you shouldn't install them without the wastegate shim. The shim increases your maximum boost, so you won't have as much power if you leave it off. I don't know if the chips would do anything bad if the shim isn't there or not, but since the instructions say you shouldn't leave it off, I'd say go to the trouble to get it on there.

if you have a boost controller you do not have to put the shims......basically its just a restrictor....

also if you do not have a boost controller..you can get one at a pet store from a fish tank..get the metal ones not the plastic so it wont melt...for less 5. bucks you'll have a boost controller...

That waste gate shim is a pain, but if you don't put it in, you will be running kind of rich and will not have the extra power from the chips.

most chips for 951's make thier power by managing the extra boost that a shim or boost controller provides.
I had weltmeister chips in my 88 951 before it got stolen and I broke all but one of the studs holding the waste gate when Trying to install the shim.
I went with Autothority on my 87 and they are simpler and faster (13.43 w/ weltmeister vs. 13.21 w/ autothority)

Yeah I wish I knew that before buying the chips. They don't even mention the shim in the kit. And now I am having a stupid dealer doing it and they are taking another day...over 4 hours and they still don't have the wastegate off..they are going to try to charge me like 400 bux just for putting the shim in. I think that is outragous. How much should it cost. Thanks.

i told you to put a control valve..even the one from the fish tank will do....i don't understand why ur not doing it...i guess what you want is the looks...what im telling you will work and been proven..the logic is the same but if you think it is a cheapo....well..all i can say is.....that it works....no more shims to be put on...no 4 hr. labor....all you need is a 4 inch or less vacuum hose and 2 clamps along with control valve and that's it....

lawrence..it is just an in-line hook up basically its just an air bleed off valve..what it does is it bleeds out the air pressure that goes to the wastegate so the waste gate wont open at certain boost setting..
