Anyone with experiences of an Automatic 944 care to share with me their thoughts good/bad/indifferent.

I'm looking at an 85.5 in the next few days with an Auto and initally my reaction is - NO WAY.. no fun having electonics decide how I drive - but upon reflection I want to be open-minded.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I got to ride in an auto...

All I can say is stay away from them!

The 944, compared to it's chasis, and ability is severely underpowered to begin with, but it's awesome brakes, feedback, roadholding, handling, looks, and just overall performance make up for that...

However an auto doesn't only decide for you, but it provides MUCH worse gearing. Even in daily driving, not being in the right gear makes a differance, however, being in the wrong gear, when you don't have much power, and only 3 gears is horrible...

In conclusion, DON'T consider one, unless you don't know how to drive stick, in that case I suggest you learn how to...

It's all the driver...

I drive a 944 Auto & everything here is said very well. The shifting is rough & it only has 3 gears. If I can start all over again, I'll get the stick! But, if you really insist on an auto, maybe you might want to buy mine.

Well as usual you were right...the auto sucked.

I couldn't believe how wrong the gearing was and the sense of loss of control (and power) was immense!

Unfortunately most everything else on this car was great - big tyres and wheels, New air-cond and power-steering, nice leather interior, sports flares (sideskirts and rear wind deflector) and spotless original duco.

So after a hard nights thinking...I'm hanging on to my cash for a stick shift.
