I think the "Over The Roof Ram Air" scoop is a bit excessive, but besides that it is pretty darn nice.... especially the engine!!!

Electrically operated fire extinguisher? What happens when the fire extinguisher shorts and starts a fire?

Thats not "Ram Air". Thats the vacuum propulsion system to 'suck' it down the track after the upside-down 3.3 turbo transaxle becomes a non-integral part of the car at the 60 foot mark....

I bet it would be rough on hats if driving with the top off........:D

This is a good place to ask a nagging question I have had for years. Why not put a Porsche engine in this rather than a chevrolet?
Is it laxk of cost? increased hp? Parts availability? Easier to fabricate parts? All the above?
I also am a purist.

Gordon, if at all possible go out and grab the latest Excellence Magazine, most Borders carry them. They have a great article on a hot rod 914 with a custom 911 turbo engine. The guy easily dropped five figures or more into the modifications but it came out nice.

Which brings me to my pet peeve:
Why do we (I expect this from the 911 folks) Piss on anyone who says they want to do a full restoration of a 944 that will cost $10K-$15K in parts and labor while we roll our eyes and proclaim "that car will never be worth that much"

We had a car show at the local park Sunday with mostly 40's 50' 60's American car's and I would not be surprised if some of those restorations are in the hundred thousand range, not counting purchase price.

Putting away soapbox.
