Question What are my options in 2020 for 924S Fuel Hardlines?

Like the title says....

1988 924S

Transaxle is currently out. Torque Tube is out. Exhaust is out. Fuel tank is on its way out

Point being that I can't see a better WYAIT opportunity to take care of the fuel lines. I live in Michigan, and there is some BAD rust on the fuel hardlines. I would bet that if I brushed my hand on them, they'd instantly leak.

I can not seem to find any type of kit for replacing these lines. Is there a known method to getting these addressed in 2020? I have read multiple forums, but none really explain what hose I should be getting from the store to tackle this. I just want to make sure that whatever I purchase won't kill me

Any guidance would be really appreciated!

Most auto parts stores I have been to have a rack in the back with lots of types of fuel and brake lines on them.

What you are looking for is 10mm (3/8) and 8mm (5/16) hardline with a metric ("European" or "ISO") bubble flare. A few sticks of that and a tubing bender should get you most of the way there.

Ensure you get bubble flare because if you just say "flare fitting" they will likely hand you a more common "inverted flare" which is used on a lot of Japanese and US cars.

v2rocket_aka944,

That is a great help. Thanks so much. I wasn't sure if I needed something specific, or if I could just grab 10 and 8 mm generic lines from autozone, so you have definitely pointed me in the right direction!

Hey Adam, I realize Michigan is in the serious-rust-zone, but I wonder if there are any parts cars within a reasonable driving distance from you which might have some decent hard lines you could acquire? By parts cars, more likely they’ll be 944’s, and therefore you’d ideally want to pick an earlier car with the steel gas tank, like you 924S. (Experts pls correct me if I’m wrong... maybe later cars’ lines could be adapted?). In the Northeast we see some rusty cars, but others much less so .... sports cars not driven in the snow, etc.
Just a thought. Best of luck,
John

Porsche Crest

Here is what I have made for others:

Cunifer (Copper Nickel alloy) tube center Feed Line to match the original...

and combined with Polyamide tube and Metric fittings....

You can do the same. I am happy to supply the fittings.
