water in taillight

The brake light lense has about 2 inches of water that swishes around in there. I can't figure out how it's getting in there or how to stop it. It never gets anymore than it has in it now, yet never goes away. Any suggestions???

There is a seal that goes around the lens to keep the water out. Apparently yours is bad.

I removed the light assy. from the car and sealed the seams with clear silicon from a hardware store. Use masking tape to control the width of bead. So far it is working.

I'm getting a little gun shy about commenting on N/A's because I usually find out I am wrong. But I have not yet learned my lesson. So here we go again.

The hatch locking mechanism has a drain nipple below it on a 944T ('86). If the tube comes off the nipple, the water lands right on the tail light assembly and will find its way into the unit just like mine did. There should be a hose attached to the nipple (1/4 inch) that routes the water around the light and down through the body of the car.

Lawrence, that's exactly how water was getting into my 86 na. Somehow the tube had come off. I re-attached the tube using some weather-strip adhesive. I also put some silicon into the seam's of my taillight assembly.

Like SHAWN said, if the water gets in, it will short out the lights... Now that this work was done, we have had no more problems with water.

As a added benefit, having the light assembly's out gave us a chance to clean some wax build-up from around the tail lights up and detail the lenses that had become dull.
