fuel pump audible humming
For those with early cars, if that makes a difference, how much can you hear your fuel pump when the car is running? If you are using your stereo, you probably can't hear it at all, but I drive with my stereo off a lot. The pump makes a whirring sound, it doesn't sound bad, really. I can hear the sound change with the electrical load on the system, i.e. pulsing sound along with the blinkers. This doesn't seem to be alarming to me but thought I'd check on others' experience. I think the PO installed a new pump but likely not a high quality unit.

I would find it impossible to discern from the rest of the background noise one gets while driving. Certainly when you start it up in your driveway it'll make itself known to you.

The pump should be encapsulated inside a rubber insulation sleeve. Perhaps yours isn't installed .properly and is transferring itself to some metal fitting our housing.
