Question 924S Ugly Side Skirting

Hey all,

I am unsure if I am using the correct term, but it seems that about 90% of the 924 and 944s I see online have a very ugly/rusted/beat up side skirt (the portion of the body closest to the ground between the front and rear wheels).

Are there any methods I can do to cover this up that some people have tried? Perhaps a certain type of lip kit?

Thank you!

Maybe you should try ...AIR...American International Racing...Their site is showing some side skirts for the 924..Myself I was very satisfy with the quality of my AIR 944 rear fiberglass bumper .No affiliation ,just a satisfy customer. Pic of the side skirt.

They are called rocker panels if you are referring to the metal panels with the textured coating. Over time they crack and the white coating shows. Maybe touch them up with some spray paint. Just mask off the rest of the car well.

There are a zillion options for covering rusty rocker panels but the one you really want may involve sheet metal or, at the very least, attention, removal and repair of the rust spots. This portion of the car is not only plain for all to see but is an integral part of the body's rigidity. Lastly, these covers were available on the early 924. You can find them on eBay and through the many P car breakers.

+1 he will be better off with those since both will require body work anyway & fiberglass will be harder to fit, remember when we did my rear bumper, the guy doing it was a top notch bodyman who did rotissie on antiques,it took him a while to fit it perfecly, wasn't a job for backward body man .:Pic once it was fit.

Yes, fitting a fiberglass rear bumper takes some time to get right.

I know your pain. As curtisr mentioned, rocker panel covers from the early 924 is one solution. I found a set on this forum (from curtisr) to hide the abuse that my 924S rocker panels suffered under previous ownership. The car looks great with them. The only hiccup is that these covers originally required a small metal 'rail' that was attached to the outside of the rocker panel. The covers would 'rest' or 'clip' onto this rail (I'm sure someone will correct me). The 924S doesn't have these. In order to attach the covers to the 924S, the shop that did the work had to 3D-print some custom clips. This increased the cost, but it was worth it. No more eyesores.

Those are the GT racing bumpers. They are fiberglass and give no real protection in a rear end collision. I have been thinking of picking up a used euro bumper. They are smaller than the US bumpers but give a little protection if you get hit.

It was originally produced by Techart in Europe. I don't think is was ever sold here in North America. I bought it from a supplier on ebay.uk and had it shipped over in the same box with the euro front bumper cover.

Classic thread here, in that OP asks a question and we all answer away, yet he hasn’t been back yet to thank us all for our wisdom! Said in jest, I promise, but .... I’d like to see some photos of his rusty rocker panels. He has a 924S so we’re virtually brothers now.

I'm glad it worked out!
