Freshly Baked!

Just out of the oven! (VHF Gold Flake, 200F/1hr.):

(edit: I either taped over or only minimally sprayed areas which need either a loose or friction fit)

Yup...guilty as charged!

Actually, I was initially turned off by the whole idea of painting anything...felt like pure vanity and a waste of time.

But then...while cruising these very forums - I suddenly became fixated on (more like hypnotized by) Ernie's "Candies for the Eyes" thread...and after this I started to get these cravings...I just had to paint something! (so yeah...its Ernie's fault! )

Luckily by that time, most of my engine had already been reassembled - with the exception of the clutch/bellhousing, intake manifold, and that sweet little water pipe which runs along the top of the exhaust header (in the photo above)...they became my first paint victims - being sprayed aluminum, silver, and gold respectively.

But oh...that gold! I wanted more! So those brake parts...just sitting there? They didn't have a chance!

And my piece-de-resistance? Coming soon…wait for it…a Golden Tranny!

I have an old Porsche illustrated book from the early 80's that had a 1972 914 painted emerald metallic flake green with gold decals and gold rims. It looked pretty trick back then.Cant find the image but this will do...

I did mine similarly except with zinc plating. Holding up very well on my race car.

Oh...zinc would be great! As it is...I'm not all that certain that my gold calipers will remain so for long - and I'm anticipating a point in time when I'll remove them, strip them of any remaining paint...and have them zinc'd!
