Norma Hose Clamps

It looks like current Porsche part numbers point to Norma Hose Clamps, which are nice clamps. For example p/n 999-512-346 is found on over a dozen places including small hoses in the venturi system, fuel delivery, heater valve, aux air valve, and once on the cooling system. This part is now shown on Pelican and other sites as a Norma 16-27mm clamp with a 9mm width.

Is this what you are all using to replace clamps at these locations? I got some of these clamps and find them to be too large, in that they will need to be tightened almost all the way and there will be a long serrated metal "tail" or used threads protruding from the clamp.

For example, the hoses from the charcoal canister are shown in the PET to be 12x2.5, which I guess means 12mm innner diameter and each wall is 2.5mm, so total OD is 17mm. The PN for the clamp is 999-512-346 which is huge for the application. Why would porsche specify a clamp that starts out at 27mm and has a minimum clamping ability of 16 to clamp a 17mm hose?

Why not use a smaller clamp?

I'm replacing my charcoal breather hose and I'm thinking of using a Norma clamp 12-22mm for this since it seems better suited to clamp a small 17mm hose. It bothers me when a hose clamp is tightened almost all the way since it looks so bad and suggests that the wrong clamp was used, but if you choose the Porsche part parts this is what wold result.

Any ideas on this? Thanks!

thanks John, it looks like they have a nice selection of screw clamps which I much prefer over the worm gear style. It was nice to see they also have the ABA blue clamps that were all over my old saab - those were nice pieces of hardware.

They are a go-to source for Euro-centric hardware and fasteners.

One more recommendation for Belmetric. The Norma clamps are identical to the Porsche ones in every way except price.

You can also order a 10 pack of Norma clamps from Amazon. I just got a 10 pack of 16-25mm for $15.

Not sure about the later 944s, but on my '84 the original hose clamps have a straight bolt that threads into a captive nut, and not the worm gear drive with serrations built into the strap.

My complaint is that the part number for these clamps in the PET is now applied to the wormgear style and the original style doesn't seem to be offered by porsche, although they can be sourced as a generic fastener from other suppliers.
