Battery cables
Hello, how is everyone? I have a question about the battery cables on a 1987 944 turbo. Can anyone tell me the lengths of the positive and negative wires? Porsche wants to much for them and I am hoping to get a set that is already made up. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Jrmongo@verizon.net

Sorry don't know the lengths. Are they missing on your car? If you don't want to spend the money on new cables you could find some used ones.

.... or “good used” from someone like Plyhammer’s or John Graves/JustJoshin’ ? With my 87 924S, I cleaned all the ends very carefully and did re-wrap some cracked insulation.

Cleaning the ends only does so much when the wires are corroded all the way through. I'll take some pictures of my stock ones if I can remember to.
I replaced my battery, starter, and alternator wires with the ebay kit. Everything was cut to the proper length and I even got the starter end customized to fit my high torque starter. Install took only a few hours. |

Indeed. I’ve seen cables corroded by wicking battery acid, 90’s and 00’s Volvos, early MINI’s etc. But older cable doesn’t necessarily mean bad cable.

Soldering new lugs on the end of the cable could do the trick.

a few months ago i replaced the battery->starter cable on my 944 with an $8 replacement (6 ft?) from the auto store. probably light on the wire size but its a nice weather weekend car only.
look how corroded the original cable was! ![]() ![]() |

use your old length and make them out of real copper. the number of strands is inversely proportional to the current capacity for the same gage.
