check oil light

HI, the check oil light in my car comes on lately after i've driven the 944 somewhere, turn it off, and start it up within about 5 mins. it will be off after it's sat for more than 5 mins or so. I've checked the oil levels and it didn't even need to be filled, and the oil was just changed 1200 miles ago. Should i change the oil again or is there something else that could be causing this? Thanks.

Hi, when does this happen at idle after it has reached operating temp?
What kind of oil was put in brand and weight?
Was the timing belt replaced recently?
Or the front crank/oil pump seal replaced?
Did a new factory oil filter get put on?
Could a wire be loose on the oil pressure sender? Possibly grounding?
Is the front crank bolt tight?
What year and how many miles does it have?
How hot does it run?
Please fill in as many blanks as possible...Stan

Do you mean the engine oil level light? If so the usual problem is the printed circuit on the dash. Either replace the circuit board or just check the oil regularly.
Do you mean the the engine oil pressure warning light? If so you probably need a new sending unit.

Next time, please let everyone know exactly what year and model 944 you are refering to.

If you're talking about the engine oil level in the oil pan light than their is a sender on the oil pan. You might have a failing sender. If you just want to stop the light from going on, just pull the plug out from the sender.

Matter of fact, just unplug your oil pressure sender altogether and you never have to worry about being bothered by anoying lights again.

my apologies for not responding sooner, i have been away from my computer for several days. to answer your questions, the light will be on at startup, but sometimes the light will be off and will stay off the entire time the car is running; the oil is castrol gtx 20w50; timing belt was replaced at 102,000current mileage, 109,000, it was done in august of 2002;dont' know about the crank, oil pump seal replaced at 101,100; new oil filter at 107,800; don't know about wires being loose, where would i check for that?; it is a 1987 944s with 109,000; it runs cool, there is no overheating; the light that comes on is the "engine oil ight" the one with the little picture of the dipstick at the bottom of the gauge on the left side of the tach, the oil level indicator on the gauge to the right of the tach indicates oil level is at "5", the dipstick puts the oil level about halfway between min and max;i hope that answers all of your questions.
