1982 924 strut replacement
I need to replace the front struts and I was also thinking of replacing the springs with some 220# from Tweeks. The car sags a bit on the drivers side and its softer on the drivers side also. If I have a spring compressor can the strut/springs be replaced with normal hand tools? After I replace them, do I need it aligned? Thanks

Yes, you can replace them with normal tools as long as you have a spring compressor (or you could get a shop to put the new springs on the new struts for you, and then you can install the struts in the car with normal tools). And yes, you will need to get an alignment done after you replace them.

this is something i need to do also, as i have a set of struts that i have not put on yet...
can i just get any old spring compressor from Sears? or do i need some special porsche-only spring compressor? are they all the same thing? also, do you need a new 4-wheel alignment? or just the two fron wheels again? thanks! obin ------------------ |

I see that Advance Auto has strut 'cartridges' for $40/pair.
I wonder if they are any good. I've had good luck with Advance Auto Parts in the past. They are made by Monroe and are the cartriges only. Any thoughts??? [This message has been edited by awilson40 (edited 09-27-2000).] |
