Picked up my next project ...
I still have a good bit of work to do on my current track car and the 911 is begging for attention. But I felt like I needed this one. It is a 1986 951 with some good upgrades to the suspension and engine. The previous owner, a local PCA member, threw in a bunch of parts and a tire trailer with the deal. Some deferred maintenance is in order and cosmetically, it needs some TLC.
My initial thoughts are to make it a solid street car with strong track capabilities. I'm leaning toward a wide body and a wing. And perhaps a color change. I've never been a big fan of guards red but not sure I want to do all the work to repaint the interior metal and engine compartment. Maybe I'll add some complementary color to the exterior to soften the red, instead of a full color change. I'm open to suggestions.

Good project car. Sorry you don't like Guards Red. I'm kinda partial to it. I bought a white '86 951 barn find. Hate the color but after adding Martini racing graphics to it, I got over it.

A Broadfoot wide body kit would be sweet on that.

Yep, I was looking at the Broadfoot kit. And thinking of green as a color to add. Maybe do the front in green dripping toward the back. Kinda like it just ran through a wall of snot.
And its not that I don't like guards red. Its just that it is so common. Common, is not really my style.

I think I've got an idea for the paint. This one keeps coming back to me. Picture this ... wide body with a wing, keep it guards red but with a black nose and a cheetah animal print graphic that covers from the fender line down on both sides, just the spots, in either black, white or light red.
I'll call it "The scalded cheetah", or just "Chester", after everyone's favorite snacking feline.

My favorite wide body has always been the pearl white one.
I've kicked around the idea of building my cab out as a pearl white wide body.

Now a couple updates on the progress. First order of business was to do an oil change and change the belts, front engine seals and water pump. Those tasks are almost finished. The rollers and balance shaft belt arrive today. I hope to have it all back together before I sleep tonight. ![]() I also needed to make some adjustments so I would fit in the car. I'm 6'3" with most of my height in my torso. The seats that came with it were too high. Those have been replaced with the old seats from my track car and the stock steering wheel was replaced with a new three spoke wheel with an extender. I now fit comfortably. The harnesses were nice but very old. So new harnesses are going in. I will be taking this car to a SCCA Track Night in America event at Pitt Race on 4/27. Should be fun.

A quick update on the little (very) progress I'm making. (I've been spending most of my time on my track car and developing my driving skills. I'm now a MSF Level 2 certified instructor and headed to NASA comp school in March.)
I've purchased and received all the suspension bushing upgrades, plus a couple seats. Front bushings are in, Monoball for the control arm and caster block bushings, and delrin for the sway bar bushings. ![]() ![]() Replaced the wheel bearings and new discs and pads while I was there. ![]() And the seats (inserts can/will be recovered as the build evolves) ![]() That is it for now. I hope to make more progress during the off season. But I picked up a 944Spec racer that needs some TLC before next season and have some work to do on my track car (the beige one) to prepare it for endurance racing. So, the 951 ranks third in priority.
