Catalytic convertor

Hey guys, I need a new cat. I have some stuff rattling around inside of it, which says to me thats it's breaking down internally. I have a recomendation from a local exhaust shop, they want to install a $60.00 universal cat, and charge me $55 in labor. Any issues in going with a universal?

I have a good used one for $150(car from Dallas, emissions tested). Save your old one and have some SS pipe welded in to make a cat-bypass out of it.

I'd be afraid that the universal cat might be too cheap and not handle the extra fuel you're dumping in w/ your perf. chips.

I think that's what happened to the old one. My debate is that for a around $120 I can have an entire new system. At that price I can replace it as many times as I want.

No cat bypass systems for me. We live under VERY strict emissions codes in Denver, that would make the emission people very unhappy next month when I go for my test.

There have been posts in the past where people have used an aftermarket free flow cat. I have never heard of any problems. $60 does seem inexpensive thought you might want to step up and go for somthing a little better.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but you
still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Sounds good, anyone have any manufactures that I can reference for a free flowing cat?

Doesn't Dynomax do a free-flow cat? Or is it Catco? Those are the only two names in universals that come to mind.

Look under convertors unlimited, pretty sure I used them before.

If you want to go w/a stock used one, I also have one I'd part w/for around $70+shipping. It's a 951 piece, no rattles, no broken parts, and you can see a little bit of light through the matrix in it, just like my new high flow cat did.

FYI though, my 951 runs cleaner than my 98 LEV accord, the turbo has chips and completely open exhaust except for one straight through muffler. Ofcourse it's also got a rebuilt engine, clean injecors, good wires, plugs, etc...
