Which transmission mount??

To the guys that have swapped 944 or 968 transmissions into 924's I have a 'related but not the quite the same' question......

Let's say you're fitting a 968 fuel tank in a 944S2; using the 968 X member is necessary (tank dimensions are different) and it goes in a treat. However; when it comes to hanging the transmission, is there an OE part combination to hang the transmission correctly? The steel X member had a neat mount with a small hanger; the alloy type has an offset mount with an offset hanger - has anyone 'been there and done that' and can share their experiences......

Virtual Covid safe thanks in advance!

Be specific to what your trying to do...

I have a 968 tank. And crossmember and mount loose to understand what you mean...

What body are you working with. And what are you trying to fit....

944 S2 1989 needed a new fuel tank - split.

We've gone with a 968 tank (new replacement 944 tank's not available) and have it in the car with the 968 alloy x member.

The 968 x member has a different location for the trans mount (approx 55mm) offset compared to the original 944 S2 one.

The hanger bracket bolted to the top of the transmission housing with the two long M8 bolts is what I need to change I think.....

The S2 box needs to go back in the car - I am hoping that a 968 mount with the 968 hanger bracket will fit the 944 box location (presently I have neither part to check other than google images!)

Wondered if it had been done before and whether the box would fit without additional modifications to the OE mount/hanger arrangement. If I had all the parts here it would be a simple check.

Thanks for the reply; many more thanks in advance for any help!!

You're going to be fabricating something. Good luck and please report back on how it goes.

The 968 box is not an 016 style. It's an 01E variant.

I have both in the shop. But I doubt the mounts will swap over. You'll probably have to make something.

Your best attempt might be to change the mount on the 968 crossmember and put the s2.mount.

With the original hanger.
