I broke my car :(

I was driving my car today, it's all waxed and looks great, I shift into second and this horrible clunking noise starts to happen. I was accelerating pretty hard but I just shifted normally. The car is bucking when it rolls and something is binding. It seems to not do anything weird when you just push the car with the engine off, but if you have the engine on it clunks a bit. (not the engine, the car runs great, no odd noises, juso this must be something in the driveline. It still shifts fine, feels godd, clutch engages, so what did I break? I pushed the car into a parking lot and had it flatbedded to a shop, I'm in colllege and don't have time to work on the car. Any thoughts on what it may be? The shop won't be open until monday so I won't know anything until at least then.
Thanks!
-Ryan

Sounds like the trans needs rebuliding. These damn 944 weak trans! Where can someone find 944 trans parts if you want to rebuilt it? I think the best thing to do is to bolt on a 944 Turbo trans.

Probably the ring and pinion. Happened to my 86NA last year starting up slowly in 1st gear. Made an awful noice. The rear wheels more or less locked up. It was cheaper to replace the tranny with a used one, than to rebuild the old one.
I paid ~$900 for a used trans + 2 hours of labour.

I had just been to the track a few days earlier. Wonder what the outcome would've been if this had happened doing 110MPH down the straights.

ok, so what tranny should I put in if I do need one? Would an s2 tranny work? Advantages/disadvantages?

So does anyone know for sure if an s2 trans will fit, and whether it has the same gear ratios as the na, I know it is stronger, and I can get one fairly cheap, should I go for the s2 tranny? What is an s2 tranny worth?

Ok, so it is the tranny, the shop wants 675$ in just labor to do it so I'm going to do it myself. My friend is coming to help; me and we're going to put an S2 tranny in it. We have to do it in one day but we'll have a hoist, all the tools, and he's done several 944 trannys in the past. It should be on the road on Saturday!

When did this happen? Why couldn't you have hidden this from me longer? Did management approve of it?

It's fixed!! This morning my buddy and I put in the s2 tranny, it took us 2 hours to drop the old tranny, put the new one in, and change the tranny fluid, and take a couple test drives Wow, it is so easy to replace a tranny in these cars. I love the s2 tranny, the car doesn't seem any slower. I love having my car back!!
