Front struts. Shouldn't be this hard to find? Help please

I pulled the struts off my sons 88 with intentions of putting new inserts in. Learned thats not an option. I then searched for assembly's (strut insert and housing) and I am not finding anything that works? What are my choices. I am fine with good used but not much that way. Is there a right and a left? I am seeing some options designate that and others don't.

Help

Pelican sells Sachs struts for the 944. They do come in left and right. 88 car did not leave the factory with removable inserts.

Koni sport inserts. Requires the strut housing to be modified, basically you drill a hole in the bottom of the housing, drain the oil out, and have to cut the housing to accept the insert. Did this on my 87’ no big deal. If you search the forum you should find plenty of info on this.

I had the M030 struts on a 944s2 that were worn out and was able to send them in and get Koni inserts installed and I also purchased the coil-over package.. no regrets...

My issue was in wanting my '87NA to ride a bit softer than it had with the Koni M474 sport setup...solved by having Steve at 944online make me up a pair of Sachs front struts and also truly lucking out by finding a pair of OEM sachs rear shocks - which are otherwise no longer available.

But during the process of figuring this stuff out...I'd also discovered (as you have) that there are very few readily available options, particularly for later cars - while at least with the earlier cars (like my previous 85.5) which were supplied from the factory with "insert enabled" struts, the process is a bit easier.

It really isn’t that hard to do. The inserts come with instructions in the box right from Koni. Part number for front inserts is Koni 8641-1414, this is the number for 87’ and up. Have done this on 2 cars, one is track prepped and have had zero issues and no regrets.

Thanks for guidance. I was able to find Paragons article on it. Super easy and glad its done.

I had my M474 option code front struts rebuilt by TruChoice, who is an authorized rebuilder by Koni.

I only cost a few hundred dollars and I didn't have to do any modifications, although I hear the drill and saw methos works surprisingly well.

Good luck,

GHEN
