Aarrgghh!!
Well that was the last thing I expected...pouring ATF into my new upgraded PS reservoir, bending down to pick up a tool and noticing ATF just streaming out on the drivers side of my not even pressured, freshly rebuilt rack!
Upon closer inspection...I can see the leak forming at the banjo connection of the high pressure feed line to the back of the steering tower - which is about the hardest place to access on this rack. Could barely get a small allen wrench back there to verify that it feels like the connection is tight - but the rack needs to come back out. Thing is...I'd rebuilt a rack before (on my earlier 85.5), without replacing the pressure line, and it worked fine. The pressure line on my current rack is brand new. If there is anything good about such an obvious leak its that it is, well, obvious - so I should have no problem, once the rack is out, arriving at a diagnosis! Will report back later...but for now, I just needed to rant! ![]() |

One of the two crush washers for the high pressure hose was too large...so easy diagnosis but PIA to fix. Got it done and no leaks. So yeah...I'm an idiot for not having noticed this earlier - but how glad I am that it wasn't something serious.
But about that idiot thing...makes me wonder - did I really torque down all of those rod nuts? ![]() |
