interchangability?

recently bent my 83 944, fixable but with a
lot of things wearing/breaking or in bad shape i was wondering what year would accept
my motor as it still runs sweet. this has been a great car but thinking a newer chassie
might be the way to go as i have seen them
for sale reasonable with blown engines etc.

Your engine will bolt up to pretty much ANY year 944, though they ALL have the same chasis, the turbo, 86 and later cars, as well as the S2 had upgrades/sheet metal differances.

However, I would suggest getting rid of the car altogether, as the price of good examples are pretty low.

OK, to clearly answer your question, your engine SHOULD bolt STRAIGHT into an early 85, and with small electrical stuff all the way up to the 16v cars (but not including)...

one of my philosophies is to put the minimal cash into it possible and run it like hell!!! drive it into the ground. you will find that when you punish the car and drive it hard, not only will you extract more enjoyment out of it, but it probably won't break!!!!

thanks for the replies guys, i know you guys drive your cars hard. on this car i pushed the clutch pedal thru the firewall, big metal plate around by master cyl fixed that. hey
this car was fun. used to always drive it
to colorado river from the coast (3hr) the
thing would just cruise 90-105 and still get
good mpgs, hitting those dips out 78 at 105
was just way too much fun but you could tell
it was getting a little old, the thing would
shake bigtime over 130. so it sits till
i find another chassie at the river.
