flywheel lock

Hello!
I'm trying to remove the crankshaft pulley bolt, is it necessary to use the flywheel lock (P9206) or can it be done in some other way? Has anyone tried to block the flywheel with a screwdriver as Haynes manual recommend?
Is the flywheel lock expensive?

All help appreciated!
/Magnus

Yes it is quite easy to lock with a large screwdriver (provided you have a partner). The tool would be necessary if you dont have an extra set of hands -- it costs about $50. HTH.

I attempted to buy the Fly Wheel Locking tool recently, but my local dealership did not have it in stock. The parts clerk even called the warehouse, they didn't have it either, and had no idea how long it would take to get it.

You may have better luck where you are Magnus (Sweden). At this point, if I ever need to lock the flywheel, I'll just find a friend.

I got mine from Sonnen Motorcars in CA. I think the price was only $20. Their phone number is 800-766-6361. The URL is www.sonnen.com. The part number is 00072192060.

Thanks for your help, I'll check with some companies here in Sweden tomorrow. Otherwise I might give Sonnen Motorcars a call.

I fixed it with a broken starter. (from an audi 100 I think. It looks like the porsche starter but it rotates in the
opposite direction, but it did not matter in this case.) I took it apart and did some welding in it to block the
gearwheel in it. Then I drilled a hole in it and put a 10 mm bolt in the hole to stop it from rotating.
It works excellent. Took some time to fix, but it was cheap.
