Wheel Painting, Colors, Choices?

I'd like to paint my phone dial wheels when the weather warms up a bit, and am starting to sort through some colors and brands.

My '87NA is maraschino red...and I'm thinking of going with either graphite or bronze for a wheel color - and I'm also thinking I'd like to paint the center caps with the "official" Porsche crest colors.

At any rate, there does seem to be a bit of color variation in both graphite and bronze...depending on the manufacturer, and I'd like to know if anyone has a preference for a certain brand over another.

As for the center caps...I'm thinking of going with something like a Testor's enamel for the actual Porsche crest - and something complementary to both the crest and wheel colors for the cap-area immediately surrounding the crest.

I'm starting to feel a bit "rabbit-hole-ish" about this, so would welcome further comments and/or guidance. Thanks!

15" Phone Dials. Currently silver, which I find too bright/contrasting (even in their slightly dulled condition) with the maraschino red.

Thanks for posting those pix! I'll assume that the top pic is bronze...and the bottom graphite?

If so...the graphite in your photo looks a bit darker than others I've seen online. Something a bit lighter than this would work better I think. Maybe gunmetal gray? Others?

OK944, how are you going to paint ‘em: rattle can, shoot proper paint from a gun or send them for powder coat?

Ernie - the more I gaze at your example of what I assume is bronze paint (with painted crest)...the more I like it!

John - seeing as I'm coming close to the end of my budget for what has evolved into a fairly massive rebuild/restore job...I'll likely go the rattle-can route.

Then again...I suppose I could rent out a sprayer. I do own a compressor...30 gal./175psi./just under 6CFM @90psi. Would this do the job?

Yes it would be fine and you can buy an utterly serviceable gun at HF for $30. The only benefit to this IMO would be to be able to use a catalyzed paint (durability). But likely not necessary if you don’t have the gear (not just the gun but some filtration and water trap) or want to expose yourself to a nastier level of chemicals. Many good wheel jobs have been done with rattle cans, plus you can buy one of each color(s) for an inexpensive test first. All good.

Bronze looks cool, silver looks cool, black tinted chrome looks out of sight. White would suck, once the break dust settles on the paint, it will stain it..

Ernie...that particular gunmetal (at least as it looks in your photo) is pretty much exactly what I'd like:

Thing is...I've seen all kinds of renditions of what some call either "gunmetal" or "graphite" or "silver-gray"...pretty much interchangeably - but they all look different.

As a photographer, I also understand how a given photo-lighting setup can (sometimes drastically) change the apparent color/contrast/hue/apparent reflectivity...particularly in a material like finished metals.

At any rate...if you could share any info about the particular wheel paint from your photo - that would be great!

OK-944....If you have no success finding the color code let me know,I will go to a paint shop not far from here & try to find the best match I can, they are pretty good at matching paint, the thing is it take patience since I migth have to go through a hundred samples or so.
