Both cooling fans running
My car is a 1984 model with Air Conditioning. Per Clarks Garage, I thought that only the primary (driver's side) fan runs when triggered by the thermo fan switch and the passenger side fan runs only when the AC is engaged. On my car, both fans are triggered by the thermofan switch. Is this a fault or did someone modify the circuit sometime in the past?

Hi Chris,
The thermo switch will turn on both fans on high,as needed, while operating the car. If you turn the car off while both fans are running, the driver's side fan will continue to spin, albeit at low speed, until the temp is stable. That large green(ish) resistor behind the gauge cluster is responsible for the low running speed. Your car is operating normally my friend. ![]()

I had a similar issue with a newly acquired 944 turbo and found someone had put a jumper wire between the fan switch connector on the radiator causing both fans to run continuously.

I have an 84 square dash car too, but mine only has a single fan on the rad. Do you know how the 2nd fan is connected on yours, as I'd be interested in modifying mine to work with two fans.

Count your blessings and leave it as Porsche designed it.

A single fan typically means that your car did not come with air conditioning.
