Supercharging a 944 --- WHAT'S OUT THERE?????

I'm interested in a 944 supercharger. What's out there? Any other companies making supercharging kits?

Speed Force racing charges up the ass. They are the only ones I have found....

For that much I can build a 10-11 second car with that money!

I'd be in for $3,500 max for a supercharger kit.

I'd be plenty happy to see 13-14 second 1/4 mile times. as well as fuel economy to stay at around 18-23 MPG. I get 23 MPG daily! Anything under 18MPG is undrivable for me. Might as well get a V8!

It seems to me that things would work out better/cheaper to either get a complete turbo engine or get the parts from a turbo engine..... or you can do what most people say, sell your car and buy a turbo.

No. My 4th car. I already built a 10 second car.

But. I think you guys are missing the point. I know I can get a turbo for that amount. I could probably replicate speed force's setup, and probably will, and just get an additional fuel injector kit.... Like a Rebic IV from GReddy or something....

How much does a supercharger go for anyways.... ??? What model Supercharger is Speed Force using? I'd be happy with 5PSI With a small Spearco intercooler.

SFR seems to have one of the best, most complete, super charging setups. I would trust one on my car. If you only want 5psi of boost, an intercooler isn't needed.

The unit I got pictured is a Procharger P1SC set for 15psi. Now how many of these 10 second cars can corner and handle this well?

My RX7 Turbo II with a T66 Turbonetics turbocharger.

1.3 Liters BTW.

Thats a nice RX7 you have. Do you have anything written up about what you have done to it?

I really like them, and plan on buying one at some point.

Having owned am RX7 T2, and now a 951 I can tell you without a doubt that the 951 handles better on the track, the weight distribution on the RX7 does not even come close to the 951.

Looks like a nice project, I was thinking of upgrading both of the Rx7's that I had, but both of them quit right around 60K. They both stated to have Apex seal breakdown at almost the same milage. Did you have to get a new block before you did you're turbocharger upgrade?

BTW, I had a supercharger kit on my 85.5 by a company called Rimmer, they are no longer in business. It did not come with any engine management or an intercooller, which turned out to be a big mistake. At 5PSI I cooked the engine and blew the rings, my kit was mostly homemade including ERL water injection.

Rez, I think you may be missing the point a little on the turbo arguement. Find an '86 951 short block to start with. If your planning on running 15PSI, you need the turbo pistons, wouldn't hurt to have the forged rods either.

I don't want to run 15 PSI. I want 5 -8 PSI running safely on the N/A motor. $5,000+ for a supercharger is an outrageous price for an upgrade. As someone mentioned, Rustang... I mean.... Mustang supercharger kits are cheaper than SpeedForce!

944s are as cheap as a 2nd gen RX7! But... then again... it's a Porsche!

I don't want to spend tons of money to have turbo pistons... It's simply not worth it since the mods would by far exceed the value of the car.

Scott R, I'm not going to totally agree with you on the RX7 T2 VS 951 Handeling argument.... Having eliminated the Rear steer off the 2nd gen RX7, I got two words.... " GO CART!"

ALSO: Rotaries are not that bad..... They are just unreliable just like their mechanic! They break because the person working on them does not know what they are doing. I beat the **** out of my motor. And it still goes. STRONG!

Only problem I have is pulling kids out of the turbocharger becuase I suck them in off the sidewalks....

I need a dyno session for the high boost. Street tuning at 23 PSI is not advisable.

I don't think you'd be seeing 13's on 8#'s, but w/ 15 you will. It would still be fun and unique.

BTW: nice engine, I especially like your turbo.

I ran 5 for 6 months before I had issues. My kit was about $1700 which was mostly due to the costly "Autorotor" roots blower. With an intercooler and stand alone engine management it would have probably run forever.

BTW I had a RX7 T2 and a convertable 88, didn't mean to make you think I had two T2's. The convertable was the best! It had speakers in the headrest so you could hear the radio with the top down.

I have a huntley Racing supercharger kit for sale that I was going to put on my na. The only reason I'm selling is bcause I'm getting a 951.
