Porsche 924s steering wheel removal
After removing the 24mm nut off the steering wheel it appears that the wheel itself is pressed into the steering column. How Do I remove the steering wheel?

Spray the splines with a little PB Blaster and let it soak for an hour. Use your hands and just sort of work the wheel loose from side to side. Another method is pull firmly on both sides of the wheel as someone hits the shaft firmly with a dead blow hammer, it will pop right off. They are not pressed on but they can get very tight from corrosion and galling. I've never had to use a gear puller yet.

the first time i pulled the wheel off of my turbo it was on there pretty good. i used a rubber mallet and smacked the outside of the wheel a few good ones and it popped right off.

Hi, if that doesn't work they make a steering wheel puller that you might be able to borrow from an automotive repair shop and they can be purchased for around 20 dollars.

It should come off. It is not pressed in or is the spline tapered. Probablty stuck due to moisture and age. Take your time.

Push on the wheel with your knees (from the dash side) and tap on the shaft a few times and the wheel should pop right off (old mechanics trick).

burn baby burn
Steering wheel came off nicely to find out that my wiring hub for the wipers lights and horn was melted. Amazingly everything works except the high speed wiper mode. My horn was not working but it turns out that the steering column was not grounded.

I fought and fought with this. and at sumbuddy's suggestion, used a PRY BAR!
Viola! Put it back with silicone grease so the next owner can remove it... |
