Question Fly wheel Sensor

What do the two flywheel sensors do? They are marked BG and DG. the one marked BG is broken on my '83. (Don't ask, big time F-Up) Will the engine run with out, can I drive it to a shop to have it replaced?

TIA,
Mike D.

have a read:

step 6 of clutch replacement

http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/clutch-01.htm

more on how to replace here:

http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/ign-02.htm

and general info here

http://members.rennlist.com/dan10101/docs/SENSORS.doc

the reference sensor tell the DME unit when to start the spark and fuel injector sequence

the speed tell the DME unit when to turn on/off the fuel pump and the duration of the fuel injector pulse

among other things

I just replaced both of mine about a month ago, good luck... They are in about the worst location to work on.
