Fuse Mystery

While adding a smaller fuse for the power antenna (so the cooling fan isn't taken out if the antenna shorts,) I noticed that the original fuse was not the correct value. So I checked them all and found this:

Main panel:
10 - Fresh air fan: is 8 should be 16
Additional Panel:
2 - Fuel Pump: is 8, should be 16
3 - Radiator Fan, antenna: is 24, should be 16
5 - Air Conditioner, Condenser Fan: is 24, should be 16

So, someone changed them, right? Wrong. This is still a one-owner car and it has never blown a fuse. This is "as delivered."

Obviously, going smaller isn't an issue, but I wonder about the ones that are larger than the owner's manual states they should be. I guess I'll get some fuses and swap them in to see if they hold.

Has anyone else heard of something like this? Fuse shortage at the factory that week, perhaps?

Edit: Found an unopened package of 16A fuses in the glovebox. 5 for 99 cents. They've been in there a loooooong time.

Don't blame the factory (unless you took delivery directly from the factory and have not had the car out of your sight in the intervening 40 years.)

More likely a PO or shop.

I have found 3 different lists of fuse values and relays for my early 1987 924S. When I got the car no list agreed with what I had. I ended up going by the one in a owners manual (bought online) with a printing date of 1986.
I had a later 87 parts car and found part differences between the early and late of the same year.

Found one of them. Schematic for the A/C shows Additional Fuse 3 as 25A, so that one is correct. I don't see Additional Fuse 5 upsized anywhere else on the diagram though.

I found a Technical Bulletin #8505 from March 18, 1985 titled Removal Of Fuses During Transportation.

"To avoid battery discharge during shipment, the following fuses are removed:

No. 4 Window Regulator
No. 11 - Cigarette Lighter
No. 39 - Radio

During the Pre-delivery inspection, these fuses must be re-installed. They are stored in the central electric board.

As of February 20, 1985"

So, these fuses aren't the ones you discovered as being the incorrect value, but this information shows that the factory was not responsible for the installation of every fuse before customer delivery.
