Headlights are now not working
So first everything worked; marker lights, head lights, fog lights. Then, fog lights came on when I turned on the marker lights or head lights and stayed on. The fog light switch does nothing. Now, the fogs and marker lights come on together with the headlight switch, the fog light switch does nothing, and the headlights will not come on! So, headlight relay? Fog light switch? Headlight switch? All of the above? I did learn that the fog lights illuminate the road pretty well in the dark under 45 MPH......

Since you mention an 83 in other posts, use the one for the 84, should be the same.

So, you've downloaded the diagrams above, and then let's take the debug one step at a time.
You say your headlights do not come on. The signal path is as follows: On page IV, power from bus 30 (always powered) flows off the fuse/relay board on pin H to pin 30 of the Ignition Switch. With the ignition on (but not in start,) it flows out of the switch on pin X to terminal point "F" which goes to "F" on page "II" of the schematic. This flows to pin X of the Light Switch. With the light switch in the headlight on position, it flows out of pin 56. From there it goes to pin 56 of the dimmer/headlight switch (the left hand stalk on the steering wheel, which I suspect you have in the high beam position) and out pin 56b. This goes back to the fuse/relay block on pin D17, and over to fuses 1 and 2. From fuses 1 and 2, the power come out of the fuse/relay block on pins A19 and C8, and go to the headlight bulbs, which then continue to ground. There are no relays in this path, so the headlights not coming on is not a relay problem. That does not mean you do not have a relay problem, but first you have a fuse, switch, wire, bulb, or ground problem, or simply the high beam switch is in the wrong position for this test. Check out this part first, then we will go on to the next steps. |

Thanks!! Way over my head! I'll have my mechanic check things out next month when I have the car in the shop for suspension work.
