Ok my friends.... I am asking for your help because you are like the coolest.... Um... the other day in my nissan pulsar i fixed the brakes and i was testing out the car..... and like my friend had to go home so i took him to his house.. and i pulled into someones driveway and then i backed out.... and THUNK RRRRR I hit a red chevy caviler.. I just didnt see it cuz it blended in with the dark..... well the guy said that he will not claim it on insurance but he wants it fixed.. ( THANK GOD my rates are high enough ) and he said it will be like 400 to 1k!?!?!? my car has not a scratch on it but his door is totalled...... its the left rear.... and i dont want to pay that.. i figure i would purchase a door from a scrap car.... but how much do you guys think a door for a chevy caviler would be.... ( bare bones ) the glass was up ( didnt break ) and the interior is ok.... please help... thanks....

Here in San Jose, we have a junk yard called "Pick-n-pull" it's a basic pull your own part's yard. They often have sales and advertise any door or hood etc for $25.00. You will probable have a local yard that does the same. The yards can also "find" specific parts if you need them.

You need to think of a few things...
Is the door color a good match
Weatherstip condition
Hinge condition (sometimes when you crunch a door, the hinge or the post for door to body connection get bent up) ((think about this for the repair car as well as the door donor car))

If you do get a door, get one with the glass in place, removing the guts and doing glass in a major pain. Pay a bit more and save the hassle

So, expect a door to be $25.00 to $75
About three hrs to do the job
Take your time to align the door, get a friend to help

(your Nissan was lucky... in a 944 car, this would have hurt things for sure)

THANKS FOR THE REPLY..... Yeah the Nissan is like a rock... I mean really the stuff my friends and I have put it through.... ( mostly safe ) and all that... It lives on... the exhaust tore off 2 times while my mom was driving it.... But i am like super careful where i drive it..... but if it were a porsche of any type i wouldnt dare disgrace it in such a way i have my nissan.... and i would drive more careful.... we took the nissan offroading ( great offroad car ) and it was excelent and we were going great untill i hit a water line in the gravel... it shot some metal thing up in the car and it slingshotted backwards..... My friends and i thought that it was the gas tank that exploded so we jumped out and stuff then had to get back in cuz it was rolling... and like the city had to come fix it.... (thank got i didnt get in trouble) and also i havent been on any drugs when this stuff happened..... and liek everyone at school insists that i am f*cked up.... huh.. anyways.. thanks.. and yeah there are some junk yard here i just hope they have the part.. and more importantly.. that he will let me do it that way.. i just found out today teh body shop wants 700 dollars...... OH MY GOD.. i hope he dont mind the other way... but yeah thanks....

YO YO YO ok i am feeling a little better now... appearently mabey the door was a bit messed up.... and like it looks like since his family denied my last two telephone calls that perhaps i can skip out on him.. we dont have any money and if he wont let me get him the door i am saying f*ck it... cuz like he didnt file a police report or anything and i think that it is to late.. you see it happened on saturday.. and i have several witnesses..... so HA.. this could be a good thing.. although i would like to buy him a door if at all possible because i did do it and he was cooperative although it could be due to the fact that if he reported it to his insurance company ( i bet since it is a 1992 or so he dont have full coverage perhaps just liability ) since he most likley has a high deductable... i dunno.. but i hope that it isnt going to cost the $782 that it was appraised at... OH MY GOD i could use that for my down payment on a porsche - my dad owes me 1k and said that he would give me another 1k so that would be $2782 for a down payment if i dont have to pay for the car.... anyways it was on public street and he didnt call the cops so its cool. i will keep you posted.. later....

Ok your right... and i do wanna fix it.. but i dont wanna have to pay 782 dollars for not only my doing... but someone elses too..... I figure i will buy him a new door and stuff.. i am waiting for him to call..... but see i am not the only one who hit it..... I ran into it once... and there are two marks... one where the trim is... and it is a moderatly sized dent.. and another where the paint is scraped off...... there is no paint from his car on mine..... and vice versa... so i think that he is ripping me off having me do all this work...... sorry to make ya'll mad....

Take responsibility for your actions. You were driving the car, you are responsible for the results. Regardless of any previous damage, the fact remains that you hit the door and damaged it.

How did you find out that a body shop wants $782. Have you seen an estimate or is this just BS

If you have cash for dope, loose the dope and use the cash to fix the car...

I am not mad, just tired of folks not taking responsibility for they're actions

ok this is great.... he just called me on the telephone... and it looks as though he is allright with me purchasing him a new door.... so... this weekend i am going junkyard searching.... Mabey my friends and i can drive up to El Paso and check out all the juckyards ( assuming there are some ) and if i find a good door i will tell my father who owes me 1k to help me out... Um.... I owned a porsche a 85.5na automatic 944... although when my step mother kicked me out of my home in Jefferson City, Missouri I got the car taken away too..... and i had it coming.. I took the car in exchange for having my good grades.... and my father said if they drop then i lose it... well they dropped but not sungnificantly..... they were 2.75 range.... well my step mom and i got into a altercation one night (i dont hit wemon and never will) I blocked her and she had a fit and was like... YOU LOOSE BOY and i got kicked out... and it was all cuz i wanted to move my car out of the hail.. the nice lady next door let my use her shed thing when it hailed and park my car behind her house( in exchange for me doing work for her ).... but my step mom wouldnt give me the keys.. and after asking repeatedly she wouldnt give em up..... and tried to hit me... and the rest is what i told you... but all i can say is i cannot wait till htey get a divorce.... I fear for my sisters..... Poor things... one is 9 and one is 6 but the only reason that there staying together is cuz of them i guess and now she is preagnent( step mom ).... and its all a big mess..... I cant wait till i am 17 and can get emancipated and room with one of my friends.... becuase i am tired of all there ****... and i would also liek to give my brother ( 1 year younger ) and sisters a place to come to get away from teh house... I dunno what inspired me to write this i know you dont wanna hear it.. I am sorry..... Bye Bye...
