cant figure it out.
periodically my 944 makes a clunking noise underneath the passenger rear. Seems to happen when the transmission is loaded , you cant feel, it just hear it (very loud and embarrassing) its a 85.5(if that even matters) any suggestions??

Thats what I was thinking but there is no play in the drive shaft. Why would it clunk so loud? do worn CV joints make a loud clunk that matches the speed of the wheel and only when excelerating or deselerating.

It sounds like the inner joints. Your outer joints are probably okay, and that is why you don't feel any play (you probably tested with the tires on the ground or the parking brake on, whish would stabalize the outer joint).
