Performance Mods for my 944

hey guys,

Im trying to increase performance in my 1984 944. Ive totally rebuilt the top half of the engine replacing all the gaskets including the head, done a valve job, replaced all the belts, and spark plugs.
IT RUNS LIKE A DREAM. So I then decided that i want to get more horsepower out of my 944. So i bought a K&N airfilter and a new throttle cam. I already feel the difference in throttle response and acceleration.
So heres my question....Does anybody know any other mods i can do to get more power????
......besides putting on a supercharger....or a computer chip
please help,
best regards

If you want to go crazy, I believe that the 968 Crank will fit your engine. It will stroke the displacement to about 2.8liters. I know it works in the 86 and above cars, but not too sure about your year. It is worth looking into.

If you put in a 3 liter crank you need to get new rods and pistons to make it all work right other wise there will be clearance problems with the piston skirts and the cylinders.

basically rod length needs to change and the wrist pin location needs to change. But it will be very tourqy.

hmmm

Throttle cam?

Notice how it ryhmes with scam?

So you move your foot only 2 inches to get
full throttle, instead of 3 inches.
It's a gimmick.

hey pilot, what type of rods and pistons would you need to do a stroker deal with a 968 crank? Where can u get them?

There are tons of places advertising in Excellence, Panorama, and 911 & Porsche World.

Off the top of my head I can think of Powerhouse and Andial.

My boss has his own suppliers for engine internals. Email me if you want more info.

to speak honestly from experience, sell it and buy a turbo. i put $8k in my 944, high compression pistons, big cam,etc.etc. then i drove a 951 and bought one. you cannot match what porsche has done without spending some serious loot, and for what 951's are selling for these days you can sell your 944 and buy one without much extra $. however if you really love this car your best bets are test pipe, headers and a mass air flow kit. drop me a line if you want the MAF kit, i have one of huntleys i can hook you up with for much less $$. the only reason i can see to put big money in a 944 is if you are prepping it for a class in racing, otherwise drive a 944turbo(951) before you put any money in it.

turbo kit= $3k
stand alone=$3k you can buy a 951 for that which has more improvements thn i would care to list.

Try a bigger cam. A couple suppliers are Jon Millege and Elgin. Might want another injection computer instead of the Bosch DME. Approximate cost, Millege cam $400-$500
New lifters $40-$60? each, Electromotive TECII engine management $1800, plus timing sensor bracket, timing sprocket mounting, and air ducting without the airflow flapper.
Sounds like about $3000.

I agree with the people who say buy a 951! Sell the 944, buy a 951! Then the performance is only limited by your budget. The MAF kit by Windward will get you some serious hp for $1695, then change the wastegate to an aftermarket one($550), eliminate the Porsche built in leakage and you've got 300 hp that hits when you mash your foot!
