Huntley Racing is BAD NEWS!!!
Huntley Racing IS BAD NEWS!!! (Not as bad as PowerHaus, but close)
Yes, well, it seems we've all had our problems with Huntley Racing. A few months ago, I inquired about lower compression forged pistons for my 1993 968, and I got a lot of BS from that "know it all" moron. He never answered my questions directly, instead, he kept trying to convince me to buy the $20,000 "Turbo conversion kit" for my 968. They also charge $5,000 extra for the labor! (Too bad some people actually buy this kit, before realizing they just spent $20,000 for just parts to get 500 hp from their 968.) I just needed the pistons! He would not tell me what compression ratio the pistons were, (I need to know that so I can plan out what size turbo, and amount of boost pressure I'm gonna be using!!!), plus, he's asking $1800 for 4 pistons! And $2000 for 4 rods! (BTW, the factory pistons and rods are forged, I just needed lower compression pistons) In the 3.0 16V kit, he uses a lousy stock 944T intercooler= less power, eliminate Variocam= less power, and a lot of other "upgrades" which may be upgrades on a 944T 2.5 8V, but not on a 3.0 16V. And to make matters worse, he states that a bolt-on supercharger kit for a 944S2 or 968, intercooled, running 7 psi of boost, will only give you 20 (twenty) HP extra!!! Hmmmm.........Speed Force Racing sells this bolt-on kit, and is just down the road from Huntley Racing, and I wonder what they have to say about this!!! This guy must be on crack! I'm so sick of these know-it-alls who always tell me "no, it's not gonna work"!!! BTW, I own a 1990 944S2 Turbo, custom turbocharged by your's truly, car weighs 2800 lbs with 506hp AT THE WHEELS, high flow everything, and it cost me around $5500 in parts, plus my labor. I have put over 10k miles on the car since the mods with no problems, and I can't wait to run into ANY of HR's cars, PH's cars, or any other moron who spent $25k for a turbo kit for their 944S2 or 968 on the street, where they will be destroyed by my car, in which I have less than $14,000 invested, including the car! |

I thought that the variocam in the 968 worked against a turbo??? I would also like to see a dyno. And just out of curiousity, what size of turbo and manufacturer (KKK, Garret, HKS etc...) do you use?

The factory 968 Turbo S/RS cars did in fact use an 8V head, so no variocam. Honestly, the variocam probably doesn't make a bit of difference either way when you've got 15 psi of boost. I would be interested to see if you could do some dyno runs on a turbocharged 968 with the variocam on, and with it off to compare...

I know very little about turbos but from my laymans understanding any cam modifications factory or aftermarket will not have a measureable effect when combined with forced induction. I wouldn't doubt that you could get 506 rhp with the proper turbo set up. I just wonder how long the motor will last.

Actually, when adding forced induction to a n/a car, you should swap the cam out with one that doesn't have any valve overlap. N/a cars have a finite amount of overlap between the intake and exhaust valves, meaning that both are open at the same time -- the effect is what they call "scavenging" and helps to draw more intake charge into the cylinder. But you don't need this when you've got a compressor to shove the intake charge into the cylinder, and in fact if you have too much overlap you'll end up blowing some of your intake charge out the exhaust valve before it closes -- not very efficient.

Don't mean to be a smart ass(okay, maybe I am), but since you "turbocharged" an S2 by yourself, which has the same bore and stroke as the 968 and you're developing "506" rwhp, wouldn't you relate the same info or wisdom to apply to turbocharging your 968. BTW: a general rule would be 8.0-8.5 to 1 if you're wanting to force feed it.
"I'm so sick of these know-it-alls..." Me too!!! ![]() Just curious, how many psi are you feeding that 3.0S2 of yours? I believe you need to clarify some of this disbelief that I and some others are sharing. |

Dude.......who is paying you to make up that BS.............. I wanna see a dyno sheet. I'm right there with Highboost951. Also, I've talked with Derrek at HR several times and he knows his **** and will tell you anything you wanna know.

Ditto, Derek has been awesom on all of the parts that I have purchased. Even sent me a free T-shirt just for letting him download PET from me.
