Easy fix for central locking
Finally got around to looking into why the central locking wasn't working.
There's a nylon link rod from the central locking solenoid in the door to the lock mechanism itself. A socket in the link rod engages with a pip in the lock mechanism. and the ball in the link rod in both doors the car had worn and disengaged from the lock. So two new link rods at $7 each and I have central locking again! If your central locking makes a faint clunck noise from both doors but does nothing else you probably have the same problem. Mark |
how does it work, turn the key in the door and hold it? i have never tried it and don't know if i even have that option.

Mine were popped off on my turbo also, but I assumed it was because they were out of adjustment. Indeed if you just pop them on (re-using the old ones) they'll come off after you use power locks a few times. If you align everything correctly, the new ones should last longer. I'm on the original ones in my 191k mile turbo (86). They haven't come off in the last 10k miles or so, since I re-adjusted the spacing.

Yeah you have to adjust the position of the solenoid.
However the reason my old ones popped off wasn't obvious until I bought new ones : the new ones have a little plastic clip over the end of the ball socket which keeps the socket tight on the ball - these had both snapped off on the old ones. You have no way of knowing they've snapped until you buy new ones! Mark |
Where do you get the $7 link? Dealer? Mine pop off all the time on my '91 S2. It's extremely irritating. When they come off, it affects the operation of the door lock. Usually leaving a passenger stuck inside, only to have to crawl out the window, or sit patiently while I run a 14" narrow screwdriver inside the door and pop the link back on. I think $7 is an extremely good price to get rid of that annoying little problem.

Yes got them from the local Porsche main dealer. Part no. is 944-537-511-00, $7-04 each. Had to order them and pick them up a few days later.

I just changed theses rods (944-537-511-00) and this resolved my central locking problem.
thanks! |
