rear ratios
is it possible to change the ring/pinion in my 88 944 na to something like 3.2 or 3.5:1? isnt stock 3.9:1

According to my owners manual the axle ratio on the 944S is 3.889:1.

Your 88 944na has the short 5th gear, the easiest way to lower the revs is to use the pre 88 fifth. Simple to install and much chesper than setting up a ring and pinion. I have one I would gladly trade.
