Death of a 928
I went to an Auto-x today and there were around 120 enterants today. I had decided to run our 356 but the clutch started slipping badly on the 3rd lap. I gave up and got them to switch me to my 944 which my dad was runing. Part way into the 2nd practice session they stopped sending cars and everyone wondered what had happened. It turned out that a beautiful Jet black 928 GTS had lost control and slammed into a concrete pylon. The track looped around this pylon that held up a trolley that passed above. What had happend was that the driver (who was brand new to the club and this was his first time racing it.) used to much trottle got sideways, lifted, nailed the gas to try and save it then by the time he hit the brakes he was headed for the pylon and the glanced off to the left. The whole right front of this car was crushed. We think it may have also bent the frame.
Later a brand new 996 also backed into a concrete barrier but got away with minor bumper damage. On the bright side i beat my dad by 2 seconds.

Whoa! a sad day at the races. Your quote tag sounds especially fitting.
Good luck with the clutch!

Makes me appreciate our autocross site with lots of grass run-off room. (I've only used the grass once. So far.....)
