It's NEW DASH INSTALL DAY!

Finally the day is here when my new factory dash is being installed.
Along the way, all gauge bulbs are being replaced, speedometer will be calibrated (It read 20mph fast at 60mph) and under-dash wiring is being inspected for cracks, breaks, bad grounds, etc.

Anyways, here's a few pics I took when I stopped by to spy on the installation. The installer took some during the job, I'll have them soon.

This dash has a hidden trick up it's sleeve. I have glued some neodymium magnets on the underside of the dash, one in each corner, and on in the center. The old dash will be used to make a nice dash cover pattern, while will have corresponding magnets sewn into it. It will >click< into place, held by invisible magnets. No ugly velcro to attach it.

And of course, out with the old...

What a nice new dashboard! If it were me I wouldn't want to cover it with anything - are you worried that it might start to crack? I'd think this would possibly make sense in, say...Arizona - but Seattle?

Looks great!

We're getting hotter and hotter up here for the past few decades. Had 100+ degree days last year. My 924S has lived in the PNW all it's life, and that dash is plenty cracked.

How would describe the fitment of the new dash? Anything less-than-perfect about how it aligns with the mounting locations or with the rest of the interior?

I'll have to ask the installer when I pick it up, but he did say everything seemed to fit pretty nicely. He did have to do some minor shaving of the PVC internal "core" to get one of two of the vent clips to click and lock into place when pressed in. Didn't take much, he said.

Sorry to sound like a broken record...but WOW does that dash look great!

As I'm gathering that the later dash will become available soon, I know that I'm going to find it too hard to resist! Fingers crossed though...that the later dash will come in two (upper and lower) parts...and that I'll be able to purchase just the upper part for a bit less dough than the whole dash.

I’m thinking this one will be more durable than the original. It’s not built on a papier-mâché core, and likely the exterior vinyl will be something significantly more durable.

If it were in my car, I’d want to look at it, at least while I was driving, because it’s a beauty.

There are some later dashes available, but in very limited color options. And they're like $3000. I can't recall if it was airbag or non-airbag with the widest availability.
What I've learned is that when searching for parts at a site like Gaudin, they'll only show you one color option, and it'll often be NLA. To get around this, remove the color code from the part number, and it will often show you all color options.

For example, 944-552-085-02-NW8 is NOT available. So punch in 944-552-085-02, and you'll see that 944-552-085-02-CCQ is available. CCQ is a black/light grey.
I think those are non-airbag.

It appears there are only two airbag dash colors available... I remember a few weeks ago, magenta was available, but now it's not... so someone must have recently bought the last one.

And then there's leather... almost $5000...

Just got word that the new glove box door I ordered a few weeks ago has finally arrived and is shipping today. When it was ordered, they didn't have any idea how long it would take.

Now if I could figure out what part number that kick panel is, below the glove box...

tholyoak 03-13-2022 07:58 AM

Panel below the glove box for cars with AC in black is 477-820-412-05T

Mine's in pretty good shape, all things considered. I guess I'll do what I did with the dash though, and input that part number into the classic parts feedback form, once a week, every week, until they bring it back.

I'm probably responsible for the dash being reintroduced by doing that for the last two years.

The new dash looks amazing!! I assume that its a new Porsche part. How long did it take to arrive once you ordered it?

When I ordered it, they were still in the process of being shipped from Germany. I expedited it, in order to be certain that it was alloted. Ordered Jan 22, arrived Jan 31st.

It is a new Porsche part, yes.
