high oil pressure

houston I have a problem. I have high oil pressure that is blowing the oil filter gasket out of place and spewing oil everywhere! I had an oil leak at the oil cooler and replaced the gasket set and this is when the problem occured. The pressure relief valve was tight going back into place ( I did not cross thread it). Could I have damaged it? I also reused the 1 week old oil filter. Could there be some sort of valve in the filter that is now bad? It seems as if there is blockage and the pump is blowing the oil filter gasket Any help would be appreciated.

yes the oil filter fits, i made sure the seal was seated properly. apparently the pressure blew the seal out.
the pressure guage is working properly
also when i took off the oil filter (after i posted the sos) i noticed that the oil was not drained back into the oil cooler and that the filter did not leak any oil out when i removed it.

It sounds like the pressure releif valve is stuck, letting the high pressure oil go to the filter, and blowing the seal.

I will check the oil relief valve. By the way, what does that valve do? Does it route oil to the cooler at certain times? It seems odd that there would be a condition where the valve malfunctions and causes the seal to blow and destroy the engine!

Okay I have checked the oil pressure valve, and replaced the oil filter and it still blows the seal on the filter! It seems as if there is a blockage going from the filter to the block. Does anyone know how the oil flows in these cars (88 924s)? Could I have the oil cooler reversed? Does anyone know where I can get info on this?

Sounds like your pressure relief valve is not relieving. Not sure of the oil routing but hope u didn't blow the o rings in the cooler.

I am pretty sure I did not blow the seals. How could I check if oil was going back to the sump?

Is there any chance that you damaged the seals when putting them back in and it is blocking oil at the cooler? Could the hose be breaking down inside and causing blockage?
I've seen this happen with hydraulic systems,,did you replace the hose that you changed the gasket on? curious about this one....

The oil cooler mounts directly to the block so there are no hoses involved. What happens if I take the valve out and start the engine to see if it is the valve? Will I get very low or no oil pressure?

Hello I just wanted to tell everyone I fixed the problem. I e-mailed the James at Pelican and he steered me to the pressure relief valve. It was not aligned correctly and I had to loosen the oil cover casting to align it. Great to have the Porsche running again! (and not leak oil!). Anyway thanks for your help.
