Turns over, but doesn't start
 

Here is my problem, plain and simple, the car won't start. It turns over and over but will not start. It has never done this before. I have checked the vacuum hoses, they are all fine. I have a few ideas: the coil has gone bad, the fuel pump is not working, or the fuel filter is clogged. Anyone ever had this problem before? Any specific ways that I can check this ideas? Gotta have the car running for the Holidays!

again...check the previous postings...it is mostlikely the sensor behind the fire wall....

I agree. For two years mine would not start from time to time. Since I cleaned the plugs on the sensors (where they join), I have had no trouble. It would have happened by now if I still had the problem.

I'll try that tonight and let ya'll know....

I got the car started. It was not the sensors, but the DME Relay was stuck. Tapped it lightly on the driveway, placed it back, and it started right up with no problem.

Now to hear the nightmare: As I was removing the sensors from the bellhousing to clean, one of the bolt-heads broke off. *#%!??!# Does the section where these sensors go come off so that I can get the broken bolt out? It will be hell with the tight space to get it out where it is. I've thought about just letting it be and taking care of it if I ever have to drop the motor. Any thoughts on this matter?

I need to clarify the problem. I got the broken bolt-head out. Nothing "fell into" the bellhousting. The problem is that the broken bolt needs to be tapped out of its hole. Right now, the sensor is in its hole with no bolt holding it in place. Personally, I don't think this is something I have to panick about, but I would like to get it repaired. Any ideas?

what do the speed sensors do? Do they need cleaned from time to time? How do you know if they need claned, what are the symptons?

had exact same problem turned over but didnt start. I replaced fuel filter pump, and dme nothing helped, turned out it was a bad ground near the coil check ALL GROUNDS expecially engine ground.

The sensors sit in a sensor holder. There should be two 6mm allen head bolts that hold the whole sensor assembly in place. Removing this is where I ran into problems. Yes it is tight to work in there. I have a cut up upper thumb to prove! Take my advise in plugging up the timing hole before you attempt to remove the bolts.

a couple of allen head bolts hold the sensor housing on. you'll probably have to grind an allen wrench shorter to get them.
