Looks like a wire got caught in the wheel and tore it up pretty good. It should only impact ABS and brake pad wear sensor. Not critical to brake operation but youll want to get it fixed to get ABS working again.

Correct - no ABS, just brake pad wear sensors.
I guess, it's better to remove all these "braids", on all four wheels.
I could repair these wires, but only if I'd have more free time and enough beverages.

Those wires go to the black cylindrical connectors (or white plastic, depends on options) up near your shock towers. Much easier to short them out there than in the wheel well...

Here’s my story. Replace the sensors on all four corners and couldn’t get the dummy light to go off! Checked each sensor wire carefully and couldn’t see a problem. In the end it turned out to be a grounding problem in the rear of the car. Moral of the story? You guessed it…..Check your grounds!

944 S2,
in my case, the wiring TO the sensors is ripped/cut.
I think, that 944's are like the treasure chests with some surprises.

I thought all 87 and up were late offset, therefore ABS?

They have the option for ABS, but not standard.

Even most '88 turbos do not have ABS, other than the TS.
