Electric Antenna
Ever since I've had the car I'd have to turn the radio (SQR-23) on and off quickly to get the antenna to go up. Had a new mast put on last summer cause it only went up half way. Late in the summer it quit completely and the shop said that the motor was frozen... long story short it started working again and now six months later it just stopped again. Once last week I jumped in, started and it went right up on it's own.. nothing since.
I checked the connections on the radio itself and there isn't one specifically for the antenna. I don't see anything in the Haynes diagrams that show the antenna at all. Anyone know how it's supposed to work? Is there a hidden relay somewhere for it? Oh, this is on an 84. |

I'm assuming that your radio is aftermarket. (don't know what model # that is)
There should be an antenna power wire and the signal wire itself. Usually the power wire is blue from the radio. In your case if you haven't found a power wire for the antenna, then it's a good chance it's hooked up to something else that is intermittently getting power. Good luck

So I'm looking for a blue wire that should be hooked to the one unused spade on the back of the radio on pins 7 or 8 (labeled "Connections prepared for positive connection" in the radio docs)? Some PO did mess with the wiring previously so it may take some tracing.. |

That is entirely possible. People will do strange things to avoid installation costs. However, not all radios come with power antenna wires, because not all cars come with power antennas. But it sounds like the connection could be there via a powered pin. You'd have to find the power wire from the antenna which can be a baddab**ch, but worth it nonetheless. Take that wire and get the pin connector (i think it's available at radio shack) for the harness on the back of the radio and hook it up to that wire and plug in. It SHOULD provide power to the antenna when the radio is turned on.
Any other questions, you can PM me. Take into the consideration that i don't know what kind of connections are on your stereo, so i'm just using a mental picture.
