A/C O-ring source
I am reconnecting parts of the A/C system on an '86 944: the two hoses that go to the compressor and the receiver/dryer. Where can I get a set of new O-rings to use? (The system will be charged with 134A).
Thanks, |
Since your doing 134A get a conversion kit from Napa, it all of $20.00 and it contains about 100 different o-rings, every size you need, and that way you will get the updated neoprene o-rings required for 134.
BTW, are you chaning out the condensor as well? If you're not then you will most likely end up with overheating issues, I did. The original R-12 condensor gets extremely hot with the increased 134A pressures and it sends a ton of hot air to the raidator, this is very bad. Check the archives there is a source for an update condensor. Also have fun with the two o-rings behind the head, they are a real pain in the but. |

I have two cars with A/C issues, the 924 and the Intrepid. Rather than pay to have them repaired I bought a vacuum pump on ebay for 138.00. I intend to vacume each car and fill with Dupont R134a that includes the ultraviolet dye. I have read the Haynes A/C manual and I feel well prepared but I was looking to see if I could get any advise from an expert.

Sorry that was ment to be a new post

Take the old O-Rings to your local NAPA dealer and tell them you want R-134 compatible replacements. New O-Rings should cost about a buck each. If you have AAA you can get a discount on parts by showing your card.

Make sure you get "green" o-rings from Napa, that's their color symbol for 134A rings. Sometimes they just give you new o-rings out of the box.
BTW why not go R12? The vent temps are MUCH better than the 134A. And you don't have to try and squeeze the new 134A fittings on the compressor side fill port. |
R-12 is no longer in production, so the cost is sky high. I was quoted $65.00 per pound by one local shop. For a lot less than that I bought a new reciever/dryer, new O-rings, and an R-134 conversion "kit."
