Cigarette lighter changes through the 924/944/968 years
Was the cigarette lighter knob & housing identical throughout the 924/944/968 years? Or did it change over time?
Why asking: I’m fortunate to have a 1996 944 Turbo, built in late 1995. It’s missing its cigarette lighter pull-out knob, and I want to find the right one to replace it. Thanks, Andy in New Hampshire

The 924 and early 944 and 924S cars used a common size cigarette lioghter.
The series 2 cars (starting with the 1985/2 944 and including your 944 turbo and more recent cars and 968 cars, used an unusual size that, as far as I know, fits only those cars. The porsche part number for the series 2 lighter is 944 652 307 00 and is no longer available as new.

I was in the same boat with my '86 944, I found new replacements were NLA as George says.
944online advertises that the whole boxster cigarette lighter assembly (knob and socket) is a straight replacement to the late 944/968 type so I bought it proved them wrong. It could work if you want to cut and make it physically fit and then mess with the wiring to make it work. All I wanted really was a new knob so I took the boxster one and plugged it into my 944 socket. Couldn't tell you if it actually functions though. Its been so long since I used it and my socket might not have been working anyway.
