Removing shift knob (968), no clip?

Hi all, I’m replacing my OEM shift knob with a new (OEM) one… I’ve done a search and have found directions for the 944, but they all show a metal clip at the bottom of where the knob joined the shifter. Mine has no such clip… how do I get this thing off?

The clip is hiding under the rubber boot. There is a slight hump there. Pull the rubber boot down and you will see it. (or pull the rubber up from the console until you see about 1/2 inch of the shift knob.)
