944 S2 Performance Upgrades

Hi
I own a 1992 944 S2 Cabriolet. I am looking to improve the performance. Has anyone any suggestions?

$$$$$$$$ - lots of it! Seriously though look at 968.net first to see a 968 that was modified. Make sure that you want to spend the money for the return on horsepower. While the 968 motor is not identical to the S2 motor, the resulting horsepower from modifications probably will be similar between the two motors. On the other hand, there are people on this board and rennlist who have managed to squeeze out some big horsepower from their S2s.

I have modified my 91 944S2 Cab and increased my horsepower from 175hp to 230hp at the wheels(209hp to 270 @ the flywheel). It cost about $10,000.00 for:
Huntley Racing Port and Polish Head, Elgin Cams, Huntley Racing Adjustable cam gear, Huntley Racing adjustable fuel pressure regulator, EBS flow matched fuel injectors, Huntley Racing MAF kit with Split Second fuel computer and ram air intake, Athority chip, Nology (Hot wires, Pro Fire coil, and Coil amp), and a Custom 2.5" exhaust with a high flow cat. Even with my 17x10 rear wheels with a 275/40/17 tire my car does 0-60 in 5.6sec and the quarter in 14.0. A question you have to ask yourself is: is it worth the money and effort for minimum gains. You might want to buy a 951 for the money and add a Huntley Racing MAF. You will end up with more horsepower.

I'm glad you wrote this topic, because I will probably be building an all ot race s2 pretty soon. The secret to this is a Turbo charger kit. A good one is from Powerhaus. Turbo for thi car is especially good because you take advantage of the 3.0 Ltr With 16valves as opposed to the 8 valves of the turbo. i do not remember what they were charging for it but I think it was around 5-6Gs That package puts you well over 400 hp to the ground. Enough to blow away any modern day viper. If you want to compete w/the supercars however, You have the option of bore and stroking you engine to a 3.4 liter or even 3.6. I have seen this done with results of over 700hp. How fast would you like to go?

I talk to Power Haus and they said for the turbo conversion for the 3.0ltr motor is around $22,000. That was about a year ago.

For $22,000 you could have Renegade install a 400hp LT-1, fly to Hawaii for 2 weeks come back and pick up your car! That seems like a whole lot of money to boost up a NA engine. Speaking of HP, I've heard and been told that the transaxle is good for 350-425 if you are not dumping the clutch, anymore than that and you want to seek upgrades....?
